Spotlight On: The Kids Network
Children have the ability to bring about positive change in the world and should be inspired, encouraged, and supported in the early stages of life to help them develop into the strong, intelligent, successful individuals they have the potential to be.
Children are our most valuable resource. They have the ability to bring about positive change in the world and should be inspired, encouraged, and supported in the early stages of life to help them develop into the strong, intelligent, successful individuals they have the potential to be.
And yet not every child gets this support. Despite the numerous challenges they face, from exam pressure and social email addiction to bullying, and gang grooming, many are unheard and overlooked, resulting in stress, depression, anxiety, and anger.
This is where the Kids Network comes in. The charity gives vulnerable young people the chance to pair up with an adult to provide some much-needed one-on-one time, to help build some crucial life skills, at a time in their life when they might be feeling extra pressure at school or home.
If you consider that 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14, you’ll see why the Kids Network is such a vital resource.
The Kids Network: Helping Kids Become the G.O.A.T.
The Kids Network is a London-based charity founded in 2016 by Sarah Woodcock.
A volunteer-led mentoring charity, it pairs young adults with children between the ages of eight and eleven to help build confidence and resilience, and improve their wellbeing.
The organisation has gone from strength to strength since its launch. With more than 600 volunteer mentors on board, it’s on track to exceed £900,000 in income. That’s an awful lot of jelly and ice cream right there.

Spotlight On The Diocese of Salisbury
The Diocese of Salisbury is on the hunt for a talented Giving Advisor to help them raise funds to continue their vital work.
If you’re an experienced fundraiser and system builder, who thrives on collaborative working, you could be the answer to their prayers.
The Diocese* of Salisbury is the seventh largest of 42 Dioceses within the Church of England. Spanning 2,000 square miles, it’s home to 459 parishes that look after 574 places of worship across the southwest of England. It’s also home to 195 Church of England schools, which cater for 41,000 children.
If that wasn’t enough, the Diocese also works with its church community to raise funds for a number of environmental, social welfare, mental health, and social justice causes.
In short, the diocese looks after a lot of people, does a lot of good, and is essential to the communities it operates in.
No rest for the wicked
The Diocese has three key strategic aspirations over the next five years:
1. To increase vocations to ordained ministry by 60% over the next 10 years
They want to do this by providing comprehensive online and in-person training opportunities to encourage uptake.
2. Looking after the mental wellbeing of their ministers and volunteers
In many of their parishes, there are concerns around funding – both for the sustainability of church buildings, and ever-increasing running costs. The Diocese wants to ensure the financial burden doesn’t affect the mental wellbeing of their clergy, parishioners and volunteers, by offering specialised training and support to improve their parish support services and streamline parish administration.
3. Implement a successful giving strategy
The parish share (the amount of money that each parish is asked to contribute to keep the Churches running) funds a lot of the work the Diocese does. But, in the light of COVID (and the subsequent growth of online worship), they need to find other ways of raising money to meet the ever-rising costs of ministry and mission.

Spotlight On Safer London
Young people in London are at greater risk of violence than ever before. Safer London is on a mission to make the capital a safer place for young people to live.
If you want to help them, this is your chance, as they’re hiring.
Young people in London are at greater risk of violence than ever before. Between January and July 2021, 29% of all homicides in the capital involved teenagers. Evidence has also shown that each year, between 5,500 and 27,000 young Londoners are at risk of sexual abuse.
The statistics are shocking.
But Safer London is on a mission to make the capital a safer place for young people to live.
If you want to help them, this is your chance, as they’re hiring.
A Safer Vision
Safer London is an award-winning, London-wide charity that supports young men, women, and children affected by violence, exploitation, and crime.
The charity works closely with statutory, charitable, and community partners across each London borough to provide specialised, one-to-one, and group support and mentoring to young people, their families, and peers.
This support takes many forms, such as:
Advocating for emotional well-being and mental health
Supporting and advising peer groups at high risk of harm and exploitation
Boosting families’ confidence to keep their children safe
Helping young people access training, education and work
Advising on housing, and helping young people find secure and safe homes
Helping boys and men understand harmful sexual behaviours and the importance of healthy relationships
Helping young women and girls who have experienced sexual abuse and exploitation
Delivering emotional support to victims of abuse
Helping teens escape County Lines via their participation in the Mayor of London’s Rescue & Response project
Safer London has three key areas of focus:
1. People
They work 1:1 with young people who have been affected by crime. The intervention is tailored to meet the young person’s needs - be it safety awareness, improving their health and well-being, or helping them find safe accommodation.
2. Peers
They provide training and mentoring sessions to peer groups who may be at a higher risk of exploitation or harm. Through these sessions they help young Londoners increase their awareness and confidence.
3. Places
They work with local authorities, charities, and businesses to ensure the places where young Londoners spend their time - be it schools, parks, youth groups or shopping centres, are safe.
Achievements
Safer London has made great strides since launching in 2005. Click here to see their 2020/21 Impact report. Fish are the most utilised animals on the planet. A whopping three trillion are killed each year for food, and demand is growing.
Until recently, most of the world’s supply has been caught in the wild, but, with fish stocks depleting due to overfishing and climate change, aquaculture (the farming of fish, seafood and aquatic plants), is on the rise.
The problem with aquaculture is that farmed fish spend their lives in cramped, filthy enclosures. Many suffer from infections, diseases, and debilitating injuries.
Considering research has shown that fish are able to feel pain, pleasure and other emotions, the treatment they receive is inhumane.
The Aquatic Life Institute is leading the charge for change.
If you’re fanatical about fish welfare, read on, as this fin-tastic charity is hiring.
The Aquatic Life Institute: Balancing the scales for fish
Formed in New York in 2019, the Aquatic Life Institute is all about reducing aquatic animal suffering.
They do this by:
Funding research into welfare interventions and advocating for the implementation of the most promising initiatives
Building coalitions with academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and the general public, with the common goal of reducing fish suffering.
The 8-person strong team have made great strides in the three years they’ve been operating. Among their many achievements, they’ve:
Formed no less than five coalition groups, (with 30 global NGO members each), to address the issues facing aquatic animals.
Produced a first-of-its-kind guide to welfare in aquaculture
Conducted a first-of-its-kind study on aquaculture producer sentiments on animal welfare
And they’re not done yet. This passionate lot has big plans – and needs more staff to see them through.
