The Role

Our new Fundraising Manager – Engagement and Development will bring experience in: • Major donor fundraising • Driving planned communication work including event organising to raise the profile of the Centre and support fundraising • Introducing and overseeing a streamlined process aimed at increasing donations by growing our donor base, donation processing and donor care management You will possess the professional and personal credibility and strategic thinking to significantly help us to grow our charity’s funding, building on the growing awareness of the mental health struggles faced by many young people. We are looking for a candidate, who is brilliantly organised, with a strong track record in building relationships with philanthropists. The successful candidate will have a track record in major donor fundraising, as this will be a particular focus area, and a good understanding of trusts and foundations given our current strength in this area. You will have experience of successfully soliciting 5-figure gifts and will have an interest in working in the mental health sector. You will be comfortable managing communications and donation drives along with a diverse portfolio of prospects and will enjoy collaborating with colleagues and being an active member of a team. You will be a member of the Senior Management Team and a key contributor to the development and implementation of our organisational strategy.

Experience and Competencies

You will have a track record of delivering results in the key areas of fundraising, partnership development, communications, and experience on a senior management team level. As well as a relevant qualifications and experience, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their competency in the following areas:

The Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP) is a leading mental health and wellbeing charity for young people. Through tailored psychoanalytic psychotherapies and practical support, we help vulnerable children and young people to overcome the effects of adverse life experiences and the challenges of adolescence. Founded 55 years ago by a group of pioneering, internationally renowned psychoanalysts to respond to the unique needs of adolescents for age-specific, preventative therapeutic treatment, we now provide a range of services that includes one-to-one therapy, group interventions, parent support and guidance for professionals working in schools and other youth services. We are developing an ambitious development plan to strengthen our offering, grow the organisation and build our brand.

Job Description

Post: Senior Major Donor Manager

Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours) or part-time (30 hours pro rata)

Salary: c.£47,000 (pro-rata), depending on qualification and experience

Leave: 25 days per annum (pro-rata for part-time)

Reporting and Accountable to: the CEO (who is also the Clinical Director)

Location: Brent Centre for Young People – Laufer House (Queen’s Park) and outreach locations as appropriate; there is some flexibility around working hours

Primary Responsibilities

Joining the Fundraising Team, which currently comprises the Fundraising Manager – Trusts and Foundations, the Communications & Development Executive and the Fundraising Officer. The Fundraising Team is led by the CEO & Clinical Director

Support the CEO, alongside the Fundraising Manager – Trusts and Foundations, in the development and delivery of our fundraising strategy

Sit on the Senior Management Team, and ensure that fundraising is consistent with the charity’s broader goals

Deliver growth in unrestricted and restricted income, particularly in Major Donors

Work closely with the CEO, Communications & Development Executive and Head of Services in the development of existing and new projects.

Manage and grow both new and existing relationships with supporters, major donors, key external stakeholders, trusts, corporates, celebrities and influencers

Manage and work alongside the Communications & Development Executive in the development of our communications, social donors and events strategy

Ensure consistent and professional presentation of the charity to all funding sources

Oversee, alongside the Fundraising Manager – Trusts and Foundations, the use and development of the fundraising database, with day-to-day management delivered by the Fundraising Officer, and ensure that the team utilises it effectively

Work closely with Heads of Services to maximise awareness and funding of the Centre work, to allow for continued meaningful engagement with existing supporters and to enable us to reach new audiences

Ensure all team members adhere to best practice in fundraising, including the use of data, confidentiality and acknowledgment

Support partnership development for the organisation, including helping to find new fee-paying clients

Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the CEO & Clinical Director

Set and manage the fundraising budget alongside the Fundraising Manager – Trusts and Foundations, with direct responsibility for the major donors’ line, ensuring that income is accurately forecast

Oversee future major fundraising events and appeals

Work effectively with the Board of Trustees and Sub-committees
