This global organisation, with income of £15m, are looking to tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems (climate change, future pandemics, animal welfare, obesity, life limiting health) by investing in and stimulating the production and adoption of non-animal proteins in our food supply chain.
Animal products are ubiquitous because the incredible production capacity we have developed globally makes them relatively cheap and, compared to the alternatives, many people find them to be delicious. By investing in innovative start-ups who are exploring novel products and technologies, as well as lobbying governments to ease the regulatory landscape, this organisation are doing for the food sector what governments have done for the renewable energy sector. They are driving innovation, driving down costs, and consumers are following.
Rather than fighting the structures around us, they are manipulating market forces with social purpose. It not only works but has sparked the imagination of a global network of donors.
The Role
To date Europe has a healthy portfolio of major donors who are giving c.£750k, in gifts ranging from £15k – £300k. Many of these donors have offered their services in building the organisation’s funding network, but they haven’t had a fundraiser in place who could capitalise on this. That all changed in February 2021 when they brought on an incredible Head of Philanthropy, who has now grown the programme to a point where they need to add additional capacity to the team.
The organisation is in the envious position of having too many leads to follow up on, rather than needing to do lots of speculative outreach. Their own network is incredibly strong, and the global organisation has found they’ve benefited from referrals from donor advisers in the effective altruism space, such as Founder’s Pledge. They will be looking for you to take on a large portfolio of warm donors and to begin building your own credibility and network within it.
Fear not though, you will not be doing this alone. The SLT are incredibly passionate, talented individuals who have already been leading on fundraising and will remain committed and available moving forward. Equally, their US development team consists of 15 people and their grant writers, researchers, and supporter stewards will be tasked with working collaboratively with you to further your reach and increase your impact.
The last 5 years has seen a rise in international enterprises with a relatively low staff count, high impact and incredible reach, staffed by brilliant, talented individuals working in a flexible way that works for both the organisation and the individuals involved. Their very nature means that roles with those organisations come up rarely, but here we
